Obituary

Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 1, 1917 in Springfield, MO to Robert F. and Eva Skates Kissick. She was a graduate of Drury University, where she was a member of Mortar Board and Delta Delta Delta sorority. She subsequently earned her graduate degree in library science from the University of Illinois. After graduation, Mary Martin served on the library staffs of Harvard University, Cambridge, MA and Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Mrs. Martin and her husband returned to Springfield upon their retirement, and she became a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church where she participated in Binnie Clements Guild and was actively involved in the church library. She also served for many years on the Archives Committee of the History Museum for Springfield-Greene County. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Martin and a grandnephew, Stephen Hukriede. Survivors include a niece, Betty K. Schramm, a nephew, Malcolm Hukriede and his wife, Jana. She is also survived by two grandnephews, John Hukriede and Andrew Schramm. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 1p.m. in Maple Park Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
