Mary Lee Manis age 84, of Springfield, went to be with her Savior after a rich and fulfilling life. She was born June 17, 1925, to Amos and Gladys Staggs. She taught elementary school for twenty-five years in Springfield and taught Sunday school for sixty years. She was very involved in theater and arts and volunteered at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for seventeen years. She was an avid bridge player, a consummate gardener. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Red Hats Society and numerous Christian and community organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, C. Wayne Manis, a brother and three sisters. She is survived by two daughters; Janna Smallwood and Carol Manis both of Springfield, four grandchildren; Jason McIntosh, Skyler "Chris" Spartan, Jessica Smallwood, Cody Morrissey and one great-grandchild; Katelyn McIntosh. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in Second Baptist Church, with Dr. John Marshall officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Monday in the funeral home.
