Mary Ann Lindsay, age 89, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, with her sons and eldest granddaughter near. Graveside services will be held at the Rucker Cemetery
north of Poplar Bluff, Missouri on Friday, January 21, 2022, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in Creston or the Rucker Cemetery.
Mary Ann, daughter of Fern Meranda (Kettrey) and Earl Edwin Precht, was born October 27, 1932, in Mexico, Missouri.
Mary Ann graduated from Mexico Senior High and then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri later followed by a Master of Business Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia. During her life she taught history and English, then after obtaining her master's degree she became instrumental in piloting in Missouri what we now know as vocational training programs for high school students. On March 25, 1972, Mary Ann married Vane Lamar Lindsay in Mexico, Missouri. They moved and purchased the Keating-McKasson (Lindsay) Funeral Home in Creston, Iowa that same year. After the move Mary Ann served at the family business and kept the books.
Eventually, they purchased other funeral homes in Murray, Lorimor, Afton, and built a funeral home in Corning. They owned and operated Lindsay Memorials and Ojibway Farms. Mary Ann was a member of the First Christian Church in Creston.
Mary Ann is survived by her two sons, Andrew Lamar Lindsay (wife Jean) of Hollister, Missouri and Lamar Paul Lindsay (wife Stacey) of Arlington,Washington; three grandchildren, Shianne Eve, Nora Beth Helene, and Calum Lamar Lindsay; great-granddaughter Riley Marie Kelley; bother-in-law James Norman Clark; nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Vane Lamar Lindsay (2012); parents Earl and Fern Precht (1981); sister Beverly Jean Hueston (1980); sister Edwina Fern Clark (2020); grandson Shawn Patrick Kelley (2009).
