Mrs. Mary Catherine Kimbrough (Hall), 97, recently of Columbia, MO went home to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at South Hampton Place.
Mrs. Kimbrough was born to Allen and Bessie Hall on May 25, 1919 in Fayetteville, TN. Mrs. Kimbrough was married to John Thomas Kimbro, Sr. in 1936. The couple relocated with their small family to Springfield, MO in the early 1950's where they were to raise six children. Mrs. Kimbrough was an active, longtime member of Washington Ave. Baptist Church, followed by her membership with Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, MO and followed her son, James, through his various ministries. She retired from Burge Hospital after more than 20 years of service and provided home healthcare for several families into her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and caring for her grandchildren.
Mrs. Kimbrough was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Kimbro, Sr., two children, Robert Lewis Kimbro and Peggy Ann Lay, and five sisters, Ophelia Halloway, Eddine Knowles, Janette Hall, Vera Wynn, and Margaret Toney. She is survived by four sons: Thomas Melvin Kimbrough (Diane) and John Thomas Kimbrough, Jr. (Debra), both of Springfield, David Lee Kimbrough, (Shelley) of Oklahoma City, and James Allen Kimbro, (Rhonda) of Columbia, MO; she is also survived by one sister, Helen Shackelford, of Aurora, IL and one brother, Allen Hall, of Columbus, TN. Mrs. Kimbrough was loved by 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Turning Point Church, 1722 N. National Ave., Springfield, MO, with burial to follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
