Obituary

Mary Jo Jensen, 70, Springfield, passed away December 14, 2014. She was born February 4, 1944 in Chariton County, MO to Duane & Minnie Belle (Coy) Hayes. Mary Jo grew up on a farm near Salisbury and Keytesville, Missouri and graduated from Northwest Missouri State. She discovered her life-long vocation, teaching and numbers. Mary Jo was married to Gary Jensen on June 5, 1966. Gary and Mary Jo moved to Springfield in 1977 where Mary Jo began teaching accounting at Rutledge Business School and was selected by McGraw-Hill Publishers to be a consultant for their accounting textbooks and other materials. After earning her Masters Degree, she prepared students to take their GED at Ozarks Technical College and became a reading tutor volunteer at the Springfield Literacy Council. In later years, she enjoyed selling homegrown vegetables at the Battlefield Mall Farmers Market, which gave her the opportunity to socialize with a great number of people. She is survived by her husband Gary of the home; her son Brad of Joplin; a brother Jerry Hayes, Salisbury, MO; a sister Bonnie Kendell, Burlington, IA; three grandchildren Courtney Jensen, Brendan Jensen and Issac Jensen; and a great-granddaughter Maddysn Gonzalez. Funeral Service will be 10:00am Wednesday December 17, 2014 at One Life Church with Rev. Jeremy Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 5:00-7:00pm at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
