Mary Evelyn Howard, 90, of Springfield, MO died on August 7, 2015. She was born November 4, 1924, in Webster County, MO, to Otis and Edith (Roper) Miller. She married Edgar Lee Howard on April 16, 1944. After graduating from Conway High School, she attended State Teachers College, now MSU. She was a long time volunteer with the CoxHealth System and had served as President of the CoxHealth Board of Directors, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Board of Trustees at Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She was a former member of the Greene County Republican Central Committee. She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church and Chapter JL of P.E.O. She was a long time fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri State Lady Bears Basketball. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Howard, her brother W.J. (Bill) Miller and her sister Juanita Vestal. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Eddie & Janet and David & Gwen; four grandsons William(Jennifer), Zachary (Ashley), Brandon (Kelly), Ryan (Linda); one granddaughter Laurel Calvert (Mitchell); three step-grandchildren Lane Bright (Wendy), Chad Bright, and Stacy Patterson (Shawn); 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and brother-in-law Dan Howard. She also stayed in close contact with her many nieces and nephews and was blessed with a host of close friends. Memorial services will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park, Branson, MO. As requested by Evelyn, there will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed at all times. The family wishes to convey their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Springfield Rehab, Morningside (Culpepper) West Assisted Living, and Cox South Floor 3 West unit for their excellent care of Evelyn during these last weeks.
