Mary June Walstrand Ellis was born June 11, 1931, in Springfield, Missouri. She was the daughter of Rudolph and Ena Walstrand. She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1949, along with over 500 other "49ers." She graduated from Drury College in 1953.

Mary June then worked as a Home Economist in Houston, Texas, where she met her future husband, John (Jack) Ellis, a Captain in the United States Air Force. They and their children lived in Florida, England, Massachusetts, and California. They returned to Springfield in 1972 when Jack retired from the Air Force.

Mary June worked for the Springfield School System. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three children, Julia Rebecca, Amy Anne, and Timothy Kevin; and her brother, Frank Walstrand.

Mary June is survived by her daughter, Mary Christina (Christy) McKinsey and granddaughter, Megan Nicole.
