Obituary

Mary Lou Deramo of Springfield, Missouri was received by the Lord into eternal life on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 8:45 a.m. Mary Lou was born on December 7, 1929 to William and Loretta Carlier, St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio area and graduated from Regina High School in Norwood, Ohio in 1948 and received her RN in nursing from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Hamilton, Ohio in 1951. While in Hamilton, Mary Lou met the love of her life Samuel L. Deramo, and they were married June 7, 1952. They lived in Hamilton where they raised two children and Mary Lou continued her nursing career at Fort Hamilton Hospital in a variety of roles as head nurse, director of Inservice Education, and in Human Resources. She was a long time member of Queen of Peace Parish. She and Sam moved to Springfield, MO in 1999 where she continued her involvement with family as well as increased involvement in cardiac rehab and the American Heart Association Annual Heart Walk and as a fundraiser. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, William and Loretta Carlier and her brother Jim Carlier. She is survived by her husband Samuel; her sister JoAnn Callahan of DeLand, Florda; her son Mike and his wife Valerie Deramo of Brookshire, Texas; her daughter Michele Denning and husband Rick of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren Michael Paul and Samantha Deramo of Brookshire, Texas, Nick Denning and his wife Bethany of Olathe, Kansas, and Mike Denning and his wife Elizabeth of Houston, Texas; and three great-grandchildren Grace and Clara Denning of Olathe, Kansas and Miles Denning of Houston, Texas. Mary Lou embraced life and was an eternal optimist, always living life as if the glass were half full. She was deeply devoted to her faith, family and friends. For all who have known her she has been a role model and will be greatly missed. A memorial mass was held at St. Agnes Cathedral Chapel, Springfield, Missouri on Friday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Michael McDevitt celebrant, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
