Mary Eliza Clingan, 90, Springfield, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in SpringRidge Assisted Living. She was born January 30, 1921 in Niangua, the daughter of James Elva and Edith Leona Hamilton Scott. She married Joseph Ardele "Shorty" Clingan on October 12, 1940. Mary was an avid fisherwoman who enjoyed this lifelong passion until she was 89. She also enjoyed gardening and was known as a loving caregiver. Mary also took the opportunity to serve Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, The Kitchen and area youth baseball. She was a long time member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, a son-in-law, John P. Spurlin, DDS, and three brothers, Jess, John Ike and James E. Scott. Mary is survived by a daughter, Sharon Spurlin, Berryville, AR; a son, Kevin and wife Susan Clingan, Springfield; four grandchildren, John F. Spurlin, Sanford, FL, Mary Elizabeth and husband C. Phillip Springer, San Jose, Costa Rica, Sara M. Clingan, Charlottesville, VA and Kyle A. Clingan, Springfield; two great granddaughters, Taylor E. Springer and Sarah P. Springer, San Jose, Costa Rica; two sisters-in-law, Gerry Dampff, Columbia, MO and Shirley Scott, Springfield. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Gary Elmer officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 pm, Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Kitchen, 1630 North Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65803.
