Mary M. Carney, known as "Peggy" to her friends, passed away at Springfield Villa, Springfield, MO, on January 18, 2018, at the age of 94.

Peggy, daughter of Edwin and Emily Cuddy, was born on May 17, 1923, in St. Louis, MO, where she made her home until moving to Rolla, MO, in 1947 to marry Rowe E. Carney, Jr.  Peggy dedicated those early years to raising their three children: Teresa, Edwin (deceased), and Gene.

After retirement, Peggy traveled, socialized with many friends, and volunteered at Mercy Villa.  She was a devout, life-long Catholic and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the Daughters of St. Francis de Sales.  As her health declined, she became a resident at Mercy Villa.

Peggy is survived by her daughter Terry Hess; her son Gene Carney and his wife Judy; her granddaughter, Crystalyn Carney; her niece Janene and her husband Howard; her niece Mary Kay Friend; her nephews John and Steve Carney; extended family and many loyal friends.

A Mass to celebrate Peggy's life will be held at Springfield Villa's Chapel, 1100 East Montclair, on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:30 PM.  A reception for family and friends will follow in the Hope Living Room across the hall from the chapel.  Interment at a later date in Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, MO.  In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to Hospice Compassus, 1465 East Primrose, Springfield, MO 65804 or Ozark Public Television, 901 South National Ave., Springfield, MO 65897.  Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
