Mary Rachel's final wish, "to go to sleep and wake up in heaven," was granted at 7:50 a.m., on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Mercy Villa, Springfield, Mo. She was 95. She was born March 12, 1917, near Seymour, in Sarvis Point, Mo., to Everett and Dorcas Stephens Jennings. She was the great-granddaughter of a Missouri pioneer family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William Boring, her parents, and beloved brother Hiram Sam Jennings. Mary Rachel is survived by her daughter, Patti Penny, and husband Al; her son Paul Boring, and wife Sandee; of Springfield, Mo.; and her son Kenneth Boring, and wife Linda, of Prescott, Ariz. Six grandchildren: Paula Adams, and husband Chris; John Penny, and wife Jennifer; of Springfield, Mo.; Jon Boring, and wife Kristina; of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Laura and Ashley Boring, of Prescott, Ariz.; and Rachel Boring, of Austin, Texas. As well as, her seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Mary Rachel grew up in the Seymour area. She was a graduate of the Bolivar Academy and Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. She was a hair stylist and owned salons in Seymour, Ava and Mansfield before moving to California in 1967. Some of her happiest years were spent living in Southern California. She worked there as an assistant to one of the top hair designers in New Port Beach. In 1980, Mary Rachel moved to Prescott, Ariz., where she studied and took a great interest in Native Americans. She retired to Springfield, Mo., in 1987. She was an avid reader and treasured her books. She loved walking and walked several miles a day. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments. Mary Rachel's family is so appreciative of the love and care given to her by her personal caregivers and the staff at Mercy Villa; particularly Mary Jo Burbee, who was her compassionate friend and companion for six years. She made her life more pleasant and comfortable. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, at 1 p.m. and services will follow at 2 p.m., at the Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in the Jennings plot in Maple Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Seymour Community Library, PO Box 247, Seymour, MO, 65746.
