Mary Elizabeth Morris Bird passed away Jan 2, 2015, at the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek, where she has resided for the last two years. She was born June 25, 1924 to Thomas Monroe and Thelma Nora Morris. Mary Beth graduated from Lockwood High School in 1944. She participated in music and sports during her high school years and attended Central College in Fayette, MO with a music scholarship. She graduated from Draughon's Business College in Springfield, MO. Mary Beth was a Legal Secretary at Miller-Fairman-Sanford Law Firm and later was Secretary to Judge William R. Collinson. Mary Beth was married to Robert G. Bird on April 8, 1944. She and Bob were members at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Springfield. Mary Beth served as Worthy Matron of Crescent Chapter #21 in 1962 and she was DDGM in 1964, Order of the Eastern Star; Past President of Social Order of Beauceant and Past Worthy High Priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She and Bob actively supported the Rainbow Girls and were Masters of the Grand Cross of Color. She was responsible for planning many banquets, bazaars and other activities for both her church and the fraternal bodies. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert G. Bird, who passed away on November 22, 2012, her sister, who lost her life in the Hyatt Regency Hotel collapse in 1981, her mother, and her father. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 4, at 2 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lockwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary Beth Bird to any local Rainbow Girls Assembly of IORG or the Council of Churches of the Ozarks.
