Mary Ann Graven, 85, of Springfield passed away on February 18th, 2017. Mary is the daughter of the late Glen and Inez Hamlet of Springfield.
Mary and her husband, the late Leland Graven, were owners of Graven Construction Company where she served as bookkeeper. Mary attended High Street Baptist Church for many years and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in later life. Mary and Lee were founding members of Twin Oaks Country Club. She volunteered at Springfield Little Theater and helped with elections at her local voting site for many years.
Mary had many wonderful friendships and was an avid golfer and bridge player. But to all who knew her, Mary will best be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally and had a caring, giving heart.
Mary is survived by her son C.R. Hughs and his wife Beth of Nixa, son-in-law John Bertsch of Springfield, granddaughters Abby Akin and husband Trevor of Springfield, Rachel Myers and husband Tyler of Republic, Katie Hughs of Nixa, Ashley Porter and husband Tyler of Republic, and Alison Matthews and husband Nick of Ozark. Mary was great-grandmother to Gwen, Lillie, Hayes, Levi, Luke, and Hudson. She also leaves behind a constant companion Tiger, her Boston terrier.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Leland and stepdaughter Jody Bertsch of Springfield.
Mary's family will be forever grateful to her Arbors family at Ravenwood who provided her with so much joy, love, compassion, and care over the past 18 months. Services will be with Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with a visitation Tuesday evening from 5-7pm and the funeral at 2pm on Wednesday. Memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Association- Greater Mo. Chapter at 3645 South Ave, Springfield, MO 65807.
