Martha P. Stoddard, 83, Springfield, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Cox South. She was born June 7, 1931 in Mexico, MO the daughter of Earnest and Molly Monk. Martha grew up in Thompson, MO and graduated from the Centralia High School, Centralia, MO. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 45 years, starting in Mexico, MO as a switchboard operator and ending her career in Springfield in the accounting department. After her retirement she was active in the Telephone Pioneers Organization and served as President. Martha also served as President of the Mexico Jaycees Auxiliary and the Springfield Elk's Club Auxiliary. Her hobbies included spending time at Table Rock Lake, traveling and telling stories. She was an avid and passionate BINGO player and loved trips to Downstream, Laughlin and Las Vegas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. "Bob" Stoddard; three brothers, Roy, Joe "Jay" and Harold "Shorty" Monk; and two sisters, Frances "Susie" Cauthorn and Rosie Livingston. Martha is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann Gallaher and husband, John; and Debbie Kay Quigley and her husband, Gerald; two step-daughters, Bobbie Sue Woodson and her husband, Kerry; and Jeri Lynn Fleschert and her husband, Russ; eight grandchildren, Aaron Quigley, Ashley Conway, Angie White, Julie and Jill Gallaher, Samantha Todisman, Toni Donius and Kerry "Deuce" Woodson; nine great-grandchildren, Callie Conway, Montgomery and Landen Quigley, Malea Pearl White , Dylan Donuis, Hali and Alex Pace, and Madeline and Megan Woodson. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from noon until service time Monday, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BOYS and GIRLS Club of Springfield, or the charity of the donor's choice.
