Marjorie Anne Shackelford Langston, 101 passed away July 7, 2017. She was born March 2, 1916 in Springfield the daughter of Laura McLelland Shackelford and Walter W. Shackelford.
The second of three daughters, Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, both sisters, Georgia Cary and Josephine May, and her step-mother, Irma Platte Shackelford.
Marjorie attended Drury University and in 1937 married the love of her life, the late W. Roland Langston, M.D. They were parents to a son, Rollie Langston (Patti) and daughter, Suzanne Whitworth (Rod Hughs) all of Springfield. She was blessed with a granddaughter, Lindsay Whitworth, deceased (1998) and two grandsons, Bryan Langston (Kathy) and a great-granddaughter, Sophie Anne all of Denver, CO, and Craig Langston (Amy) and two great-grandsons, Cooper and Charlie all of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews.
A lifelong member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, Marjorie was very involved in church activities. In addition she was a member of SMMA Antique Arts Group and the Greene County Medical Society Auxiliary. She loved music and was first chair violinist with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and a member of the String Quartet. Marjorie was also an avid tennis enthusiast and played into her late eighties. She also enjoyed watching all the major televised tennis tournaments, as well as numerous other sports, and was a fan of NASCAR Driver Carl Edwards.
Marjorie's most cherished role was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was at the heart of memorable family occasions, always supportive and eager to share in new endeavors by each family member.
During her 101 years, 3 months and 5 days she was blessed with amazing health, an optimistic attitude, a patient, kind and caring nature and a level of contentment few are fortunate to achieve. No doubt, this played an important part in her longevity. She was a remarkable, sweet, kind lady always!
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 10:00 am in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private burial services will be at Danforth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 E. Cherry, Springfield, MO 65806.
