Obituary

Marjorie Mae Marie (Marcotte) Baughman, 86, died at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO October 23, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.  She was married to Larry J. Baughman, also of Salina, Kansas.

Born in Clyde Kansas April 22, 1932 to Alphonse T. Marcotte and Edna Ann (Chavey) Marcotte.  As a young girl she rode the family pony many hours singing "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart."

Marjorie attended a rural, one-room school house.  The home schooling she received from her mother made it possible for her to be placed in her older bothers class.   She graduated with honors from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, Kansas, in 1949.  Marjorie received her RN Nursing degree from St. John's Hospital and Marymount College in Salina, KS. Marjorie had a passion for caring for new moms and infants on St. Johns' OB ward.

She exhibited determination and grit throughout her life.   Marjorie's life was enriched with international travel to Germany, Canada and throughout the United States as a dedicated Army wife.  She led an extraordinary life as a nurse, mother, and family manager.  She will be lovingly missed, but her sacrifices and love will never be forgotten.

Marjorie's  was highly committed to her Catholic faith and prayed the Holy Rosary to the Blessed Mother daily and for family members and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents,  one brother, Marion Marcotte, one son, Michael Baughman MD, and twin daughters, Laurie Ann and Mary Elizabeth.

She leaves her husband of 65 years, Larry J. Baughman, Retired Colonel US Army, and  children: Patricia Baughman, Springfield, MO, Paulette Baughman, daughter-in-law, Shawnee KS, Linda Jean (Jack) Ogle,  Rockford, IL, Bruce (Joyce) Baughman,  Mahomet, IL, Chris Baughman, Springfield, MO, Janet Bell BSN, South Elgin, IL, Carol Adrienne (Roger Ferguson) Baughman, Des Moines, IA, Jonathan (Loralee) Baughman PharmD, Fordland, MO, and Teresa (Gary) Fessler- Haslet, TX.  She also leaves a sister, Regis (Marcotte) Duggan, Steubenville, OH; two brothers, Conrad Marcotte (Sharon),Wichita, KS and Harold Marcotte (Jean), San Diego, CA., and 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home,  Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, 424 E. Monastery St., Springfield, MO 65807, for the care of unwed mothers and infants.

The family wishes to thank the Cox Hospital Cardiology Department and Nursing Staff for their compassionate and professional care.  We were indeed impressed with their loving care and attention to Marjorie.  May God Bless them all.
