Marion then married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Gibson in 1964.  They moved to Columbia where he entered medical school at the University of MO.    He graduated with honors in 1968, and then went on to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for a straight medicine internship.  After serving in the Medical Corps in the Army for a year, he completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.
