Obituary

Marion Elizabeth Hansen, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2013 after a lingering illness. She was born on December 17, 1922, to Edgar and Emma Youngquist in Davenport, IA. Following high school, she attended Augustana College for two years, followed by a period as a secretary at a law firm in Davenport. On June 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Maynard O. Hansen. To this union four children were born. Their first home was in Upper Michigan; they also lived for a period of time in Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota, before moving to Springfield in 1981. She has been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church since that time, and joined with the Piecemakers in their quilting projects. She also served as a volunteer at (then) St. John's Hospital for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her one brother, Roger. She is survived by her husband of 65 years; one son, John M. Hansen (Nancie), Ukiah, CA; three daughters, Carol Tyson (Kevin), White Plains, NY; Marcia Liesch (Joseph) and Jane Hansen, Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Anja, Lucas, Loren, Heather, and Willie, plus other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:30am with visitation beginning at 9:30. Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2013 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Building Fund or the donor's choice.
