IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn R.
Wright
October 6, 1927 – February 1, 2023
Marilyn R. Wright, 95, passed peacefully from this earth to her eternal home on February 1, 2023. Her loving husband of 68 years, Bill Wright, and her son Stephen preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, David Wright of Ann Arbor, Michigan as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren – the most recent born just three days prior to her death! She is also much loved by her daughters-in-law Sue Lloyd Wright and April Wright.
Marilyn was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 6, 1927 and raised in Kansas City, Missouri where she met and married her husband, Bill, on October 25, 1947. The family moved to Springfield in 1965 where she made her home and formed many dear friends in the succeeding years. She was a graduate of William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri.
She was a longtime member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church and, previously, National Avenue Christian Church. Marilyn was a woman of deep faith serving at various times in her life as church usher, deacon and elder and had a profoundly generous, giving spirit. Among her many talents, she was a gifted knitter and proud winner of a first place ribbon at the Ozark Empire Fair for one of her afghans. In recent years, she donated countless knitted blankets to Newborns in Need, a local charitable organization devoted to helping families and children facing hardships at the start of their young lives.
Since1959 Marilyn was a proud and active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She is much loved by the members of the local chapter FT where she is remembered as a past president from 1973-75. Marilyn enjoyed her many years of working locally in the insurance industry with both Mutual of Omaha and Joe Martin, Inc.
There will be a celebration of Marilyn's life on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First and Calvary Presbyterian Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William and Marilyn Wright Donor Advised Fund at The Community Foundation of the Ozarks or the local chapter of Newborns in Need.
