Obituary

Marilyn Lataine (York) Vinson, 80 of Springfield passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 in her home.

She was born November 13, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Ruth Lataine (Young) and Charles Curry York.  She graduated from Derby High School in Kansas and then attended Wichita State University.  Marilyn graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor's degree from Southwest Baptist University.

Marilyn was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and was very active in St. Mary's Guild, The Order of the Daughters of the King, she volunteered at Next to New Shop, helped with Sunday school and Bible school, she was a Stephen Minister and a parish nurse.  Marilyn also volunteered and served as a manager at the Well of Life and was a member of the Association of Women's Health Obstetrics and Neo-Natal Nurses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ron, and a daughter-in-law, Rose Vinson.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Gordon McAfee; two sons, Thad Vinson (Heidi) and Russell Vinson; her brothers, Robert York (Debra) and Criss York (Carol); sister, Carolyn Alley (Donald); granddaughter, Chloe Sage Vinson and great-grandchild, Riley Rose Vinson as well as extended family and friends.

Memorial visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2023, at 4:30 PM at Christ Episcopal Church under the care of Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home. Family committal will be at the church columbarium.

Memorial donations may be made to The Order of the Daughters of the King.
