Obituary

February 3, 1935 – October 31, 2022

Marilyn Fuelling, 87, quietly passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 in St. Louis, MO. She was born February 3, 1935 in Springfield, MO to Clyde Medley and Niline (Heflin) Medley. She attended K-12 at Greenwood Laboratory School in Springfield. She began her college studies at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia before transferring to the University of Tulsa (Oklahoma) graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1957. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority.

After college she resided in Rolla, MO where she worked for the Missouri State Division as a Child Welfare Worker. During this time she met her future husband, David Fuelling, at her best friend's wedding and in 1959, they married and enjoyed 56 years together before his passing 6 years ago in 2016. They lived in Gray Summit, MO and later Chester, IL to pursue Dave's career. After their first child, Jeff, was born they moved back to Springfield to be closer to her family and built a house on 29 acres near Rogersville where their second child, Linda, was born. She enjoyed the quiet and the beautiful view from their backyard.

Marilyn was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom and later worked part-time as an optical assistant at Heer's department store and Payless Optical in Springfield. While raising her children, she was involved as a Girl Scout leader, PTA volunteer, and attended many of their piano recitals, band concerts, and other school events. She was involved in the Binnie Clements Guild at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, Springfield's Friends of the Library, and was the first woman inducted into the men only membership of the University Club. She enjoyed getting together regularly with friends for lunch, attending her granddaughter's birthday celebrations, driving down to Branson to see the shows, playing cards with her granddaughter, and reading everything from the local newspaper to fiction, medical journals, and financial magazines. She loved the Ozarks, especially during the fall and the scenic drives down to Branson and Eureka Springs. She was kind, generous, financially savvy, practical, and always full of helpful hints.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Fuelling, of St. Louis; daughter, Linda Fuelling-Jones, son-in-law, Julian, granddaughter, Juliette, of Phoenix, AZ; and her brother, Clyde Medley, Jr., of Dallas, TX.

We are very grateful to the Senior Helpers at Cedarhurst of Tesson Heights in St. Louis, especially Angie Johnson who helped her as her needs became greater.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 E. Cherry St., Springfield, MO 65806. She will be laid to rest in Maple Park Cemetery.
