Obituary

Marilyn Jean Courtney (Carris) passed away on March 13, 2024.

Marilyn was born on February 26, 1955, from parents Roy B Carris an U.S. Air Force officer and L Maxine Carris at US Military Academy West Point New York.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Marilyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Leland Courtney III (Fair Grove) children Robert (Fair Grove), Brittany (Ash Grove),  Lori (Nine Mile Falls WA), stepson Leland IV (Rogersville), and  sister Eleanor Sutter (St. Louis). Grandchildren include Kylie, Kasandra, and Alyoena.  Extended family also includes in laws and many cousins.

Marilyn graduated from Glendale High School (Springfield) in 1973. She later pursued higher education at Southwest Missouri State University where she earned a B.S. in Management and Marketing.

Marilyn fiercely loved her family. She and Lee made a home for their family in Missouri, Texas, Alaska, and Washington. She had a passion for crafts and spent many hours creating beautiful pieces that brought joy to those around her.  She also loved cooking, finding and sharing new recipes especially those involving baking confections.

Travel was one of Marilyn's happy places with visits to most of Europe as well as South America, and the Caribbean. Her favorite excursion was Vienna Austria.

She also enjoyed surrounding herself with dogs, cats, birds, fish and any other type of animal which would cross her path.

A memorial visitation will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 2-4 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
