Marilyn Anne Atwater, 78, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 in her home.  She was born June 20, 1942 in Springfield, MO and was preceded in death by her parents Clagett Robert Offutt and Zaida Leota Offutt.

She was a 1960 graduate of Parkview High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University until being employed by AT&T.  After marriage to Charles B. Atwater on June 17, 1962, they moved to Richmond, VA and moved back to Springfield in 1965 where their son was born.  Later they moved to Ashville, NC and a daughter joined their family in 1969.  In 1971, they moved back to Springfield to stay.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Charles of 58 years; son, Charles Robert Atwater and his wife, Nancy of Lee's Summit, MO; daughter, Julie Ann Bush and her husband, Jason; and two grandchildren, Abigail L. Bush and Elijah A. Bush of Overland Park, KS.

Marilyn was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church since 1971, where she served on various committees and volunteered in several areas over the years from teaching Sunday School, working in the office as a receptionist and was involved in the Stephen Ministry program.  She also volunteered at St. John's and Cox South Hospitals, Hope Support and Wonders of Wildlife.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations may be made to Camp Bluebird, Hope Support (GYNCA) and/or to the Homebuilder's Class of Schweitzer United Methodist Church.
