Obituary

M. Marie Wiley age 85, of Battlefield, MO passed away at 4:30 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023, in Springfield, MO. She was born the daughter of Charles Joseph Walker and Minnie Margarite (Hobson) Walker in Bowen, IL on April 2, 1937.

She was a member of the Dayspring Church of the Nazarene where she and her late husband Ron attended faithfully, limited only by their health.

Marie was preceded in death by husband, Ronald; parents, Charles and Minnie Walker; brother, Charles Walker, Jr.; sisters, Louise (Walker) Martin, Esther (Walker) Mull, Alice Walker Hofman, and Eva Jane Walker; and infant daughter, Katheryn Sue Crews. She is survived by son, Joe (Charles Joseph) Crews (Sandra) of Walnut Grove, MO; daughter, Donna Marie Crews Jones (Donald) of Battlefield, MO; daughter, Patricia Louise Crews Switzer (Bryan) of Bucklin, MO; and son, Aaron Francis Crews (Shari) of Battlefield, MO. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michele Crews (Don) Griffin, Kauai, HI, Michael (Rosie) Crews, Fort Worth, TX, Matthew (Jill) Hensley, Walnut Grove, MO, Tracey (Benjamin) Thompson, Bucklin, MO, Shane (Shira) Roberts, Nixa, MO, Kelsey Marie Crews (Joey) Barbagiovani, Springfield, Riley Aaron (Annie) Crews, Moore, OK. Marie had 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She had numerous friends. Throughout her life many of them also called her "Mom".

Her nursing career spanned almost 50 years. She went to LPN school when she was in her late 20s and had 4 children, the youngest being 4. She scored second in the state of Illinois on her state boards that year. She went back to school and became a RN when she was in her 40s and still had 2 children at home. She never had any trouble getting a job, that's for sure! She was the Head Nurse of an emergency room, worked in 3 doctor's offices, worked in 4-5 hospitals doing everything from bedside nursing to charge nurse, head nurse, to house supervisor, to giving chemotherapy, and more. She was the Nursing Director of a nursing home, worked Home Health, and finished her career working in a nursing home. She retired, and then went back to work. She finally retired at the age of 70, in 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the Dayspring Church of the Nazarene in Springfield, MO, with Reverend William Hungerford officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. There will be a private burial service at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2023, immediately preceding the funeral at the church.
