Obituary

Margie Lucille "Lucy" Hurd, age 80, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 11:40 a.m. in Mercy Villa facility. She was born November 19, 1934, the daughter of Charley and Hallie (Simmerman) Glaubitz. Lucy graduated Central High School in 1952 and married B. Dale Hurd June 18, 1955. They had one son, Michael Dale. Lucy was a church secretary at FBC Springfield and the secretary for the state senator, Dennis Smith. She became a Christian in 1942 and was an ardent believer who loved and served the Lord tirelessly throughout her life. Lucy was a member of First Baptist Church, Springfield for many years. She served in various planning capacities with Missouri Baptist Children's Home. In retirement she and her husband, Dale traveled extensively before his death and later until her health declined. She had many dear friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Dale; sisters, Katherine Glaubitz and Doris Glaubitz Garrett; brother, Charles Glaubitz, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Sam Keifer, Leonard Stone and Chuck Garrett. Lucy is survived by sisters, Margaret Smith, Rogersville, Shirley Stone, Fordland and Rosalie Keifer, Waconia, MN; sister-in-law, Mary Fields, Rogersville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Hurd, Houston, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hurd King, Santa Monica, CA, Stuart Hurd and wife Jayme, Virginia Beach, VA, Kathryn, Grace, and Hope Hurd, Houston, TX; great-grandson, Aiden Stuart Hurd, Virginia Beach, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Overton officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery, Rogersville, MO. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Baptist Children's Home, 1837 E. Cherry, Springfield, MO 65802 or Gideons International, www.gideons.org.
