IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marge
Stephens
February 8, 1934 – March 31, 2021
Marjory Jean Stephens passed away on March 31, 2021. She was the first-born daughter of Alice and Ernest Cummins and was born in Marshall, Missouri. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1952, and she attended Central State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Missouri. She met her future husband, Lieutenant Gayle Stephens, on May 26, 1956 at a Wing picnic at the Sedalia Air Force Base. Their courtship was with the utmost respect and honor. Gayle treated Marge like a Queen and got a Queen in return. Marge and Gayle were married on May 26,1957 at the Sedalia Christian Church. They have been blessed with 63 years of beautiful marriage. Marge spent 15 years as an Air Force wife including her husband's four combat tours in B-52's in Vietnam. Her husband Gayle is forever grateful for her enduring support she offered in holding their marriage together over these turbulent years. The Stephens retired to Springfield where Marge became very involved in the Springfield Symphony Guild, where Marge was the Guild President from 1985 to 1987. She with friend Judy Bisner both created the Guild-sponsored Designer Showcase House. Marge was also the owner of Ne-Ne's Fashions, a popular dress shop located in the Southern Hills shopping center and later in the Plaza shopping center.
Marge was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Kay Finnie, and son Chase Gayle Stephens.
She is survived by her sons Dan of Springfield and Brooke of Branson.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to the Kay and Tom Finnie Dogwood Gardens Fund at the Community Foundation of the Ozarks – 2400 S Scenic Ave, Springfield, Missouri, 65807 or the Springfield Symphony Association, 411 Sherman Parkway, Springfield, Missouri, 65802. The family wishes to thank Dr. Martin Schudy and NP Conssandra Cole for their excellent care at Farrell-Duncan Clinic, Dr. Roberts at Quail Creek, and the Doctors and staff of Cox Hospital.
