Obituary

Margaret 'Margo' Parrish, 58, passed at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 21, 2014 with family and friends at her side. Margo was born March 16, 1956 in Great Bend, KS to Chuck and Mary Ann Dreiling and was the oldest of 5. She met the love of her life, Michael, at Kickapoo High School and their first date was on Valentine's Day. They were married on May 8, 1982 at Thorncrown Chapel. After moving to Lawrence, KS in 1985 they had their first and only child, Mariel, despite being told she could not conceive as a result of treatments for a rare form of cancer in her early teens. Mariel was truly a miracle baby. While in Lawrence Margo worked multiple jobs to help support the family and Michael who was pursuing his college degree. She liked saying she was working on her PhT (Putting Hubby Through). The happy family called Peoria, Illinois their home in 1989. Margo followed in her father's footsteps working in the grocery business for 35 years. While in Springfield, she worked for Dillon's. Margo was completely invested in her family and friends. She regularly brought people food, funny gifts and little surprises which she referred to as her 'care packages'. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and was renowned for baking cakes for everyone. Margo was very passionate about animal welfare and music, and expressed her creativity through poetry, sewing, and baking. She made the 'best lasagna in the world'. Her and Michael had a standing date night each week at their local brewery for fifteen years where they developed many close friendships. She enjoyed brewing her own beer and sharing it with those around her. She is remembered as deeply caring, loyal, fun-loving and absolutely reliable. One of her favorite things was to spend time at Lake of the Ozarks and especially loved igniting fireworks off her lake house dock. She leaves behind her husband of 32 years Michael; her daughter Mariel; sisters Marcia, Marilyn, Marita and husband Steven; brother Steve; mother Mary Ann; nephew Casey; all in Springfield, MO; along with a great number of friends who were very special to her. Margo's final resting place will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, MO close to her father Chuck. Celebrations (visitation) will be held on Tuesday, May 27th at Gorman-Scharpf from 5-7 PM. Private burial services will be held the following day. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Castaway Animal Rescue Effort in Springfield.
