Margaret (Pat) P. Van Rhein, 86 of St. Peter's MO. passed away the morning of July 14, 2023 with family in attendance. Pat was born on January 29, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to her parents John and Sophia Reddan. She was the second to last of nine children. Pat graduated from Fontbonne College with a degree in Education. On November 26, 1959 Pat married Larry Van Rhein and together they enjoyed fifty years of marriage. She taught elementary school before becoming a full time mother, a job she would love and excel at for years. While busy raising six kids, she often volunteered for her church and Crosslines. She was a devout Catholic. She taught reading to adults at Ozark Technical College. Pat worked alongside Larry for many years at Zickel Flooring in Springfield. There was nothing that Pat loved more than being with her family. She was a kind, caring, loving, joyful person who was easy with a laugh, and loved to dance. She was a big sweetie that everyone loved.
Pat is survived by five children, Carol Van Rhein, Erik Van Rhein and wife Karen Moy, Keith Van Rhein and wife Cristina Martinez, Stephen Van Rhein and wife Amanda Gehin, Theresa Flett and husband Eric Flett; daughter-in-law Carol S. Van Rhein; nine grandchildren, Vincent Van Rhein, Justin Van Rhein, Timothy Van Rhein, Erin Warden, Ian Keiser, Anna Keiser, Kevin Flett, Owen Flett and Elon Van Rhein; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Olen, Mabel and Nina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry and son, Peter.
Memorial donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, National Council of the United States, 58 Progress Parkway, St. Louis, Mo. 63043-3706 or donations may be made online.
Visitation will be Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E Seminole St, Springfield, MO 65804. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 3555 S Fremont Ave, Springfield, MO 65804. Interment will follow at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 S Lone Pine Ave, Springfield, MO 65804.
