Marcelene Skidmore, 92 passed away in Springfield, Missouri on Friday May 12th, 2023. She was born November 21st, 1930 in Cedar County Missouri. Marcelene was the daughter of Charles and Pearl Moore and grew up on a farm near Stockton, Missouri. Marcelene became a Christian at an early age and was a lifelong member of Mt. Enon Church. She was a graduate of Stockton High School and attended Bolivar College for two years. Then, she transferred to SMS (now Missouri State University) where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was in rural Cedar county in a one room schoolhouse. Marcelene then met a wonderful man, George Skidmore. They were united in marriage May 23rd, 1954. This marriage was blessed by on daughter, Debra. They were married 50 years, until George passed away in 2004. After marriage, Marcelene and George moved to Springfield, Missouri. Marcelene continued her teaching career at Willard School District for 31 more years. She retired after 37 years of teaching. During retirement Marcelene spent a lot of time with family traveling. Marcelene especially enjoyed spending time with her only granddaughter, Marcelene spent the last three years of her life as a resident at Quail Creek where she relied on a team of devoted caregivers. The friends she made during her time there were a blessing. Her family extends a special thank you to the staff at Quail Creek and Good Shepherd Hospice. Marcelene will be remembered as a kind woman who cared deeply and loved her family. Marcelene is survived by her daughter, Debra Warthen, son-in-law, David Warthen, and granddaughter Georgia Warthen. As well as her brother James Moore, sister Donna McDaniel, and many nieces and nephews.
