Malcolm Lloyd Wright, 76, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2020. He was born on Feb. 17, 1944 to Malcolm Graham and Isabelle Wright in Springfield. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Parkview High School in 1962 before attending Drury University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
Lloyd married Martha Stanley of Joplin in 1967 and welcomed daughters Mary Belle and Rebecca to the family. He began his work career in the family hardware business in Carthage and Joplin at Carlson's Hardware. Later he moved to Springfield and became co-owner and general manager of Springfield Mill & Lumber. In recent years he was associated with Pyramid Foods/ Price Cutter stores in various capacities.
Lloyd had a very active life that included memberships in the Masonic bodies of Gate of the Temple Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine which he served as the Illustrious Potentate in 1987, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was active in the Republican Party of Greene County serving on the Central Committee and the Target fundraising organization. Lloyd was a long time member of Hickory Hills Country Club and a member of the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church where he was instrumental in the creation of the Church Columbarium.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Malcolm and Isabelle Wright, his grandfather Lloyd W. Hughes, and other family members: stepmother Barbara Toombs Wright, Ann Baldwin Hinton, Robert and Valerie Toombs, Anthony R. Kassab, and Anne Kassab Olive.
He is survived by his wife Martha, daughters Mary Belle Wright, Kansas City, and Rebecca Wright Medler (Andrew) St. Louis; sister Susan Wright Salsitz (Bob), Richmond, VA, sister Jenny Baldwin; grandchildren Townes Broderick, Annabelle Medler, Charlotte Medler; Aunt Jeanne Toombs, cousin Sara Toombs Krutsinger; sister-in-law Maridan Stanley Kassab, brother-in-law Dan Stanley(Melanie), Joplin; nieces and nephews Joy K. Lowe (Mike), Lil K. Olive (Paul), Betsy K. Taylor (Erick), Marty K. Chaney (Jim), Julie Salsitz Davi (Mike), Ethan Salsitz (Laura Lee), Barbara Eby (Kyle), William Twyinstra (Cary), Matthew Stanley, Ryan Stanley(Amanda), Logan Stanley (Emily), Adam Stanley (Lucie) and their extended families.
Private funeral services for Lloyd's family are planned and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. The family has requested any donations can be made in Lloyd's name to Christ Episcopal Church, 601 East Walnut, Springfield MO 65806; or to NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) at www.nami.org .
