IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynda
Tolbert
May 29, 1943 – October 16, 2022
Eva Lynda Tolbert, age 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away October 16, 2022, after a courageous 5-year fight with cancer. Lynda was born May 29, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee to Lester Earl and Kathryn Elizabeth Brigance. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri where she was a proud member of the Kiltie Drum & Bugle Corps. Later in life she often tried to remember the drum rhythms using two knitting needles and an ottoman as she told Kiltie memories to her daughters.
She was united in marriage to Roy Willard Tolbert on August 5, 1961. They were married for 61 years. Lynda was a Registered Nurse and worked for years at the Women's Clinic in Springfield, Missouri where she served many patients. She loved her patients and her work, and her patients loved her. She was also a life-long member of the Springfield Seventh Day Adventist Church where she considered many of the congregation great friends if not adjunct family members. Lynda was kind and loving and always up for good conversation, great stories and jokes, or competitive card games. She was a true family woman and shared wonderful relationships with her immediate family and extended family where nieces and nephews considered her a "second mother". She spent many a summer in the 70's and 80's on Table Rock Lake at her parent's mobile home park Brigance's Showme Shores. The "Ladies of the Lake" as she, her sisters, and friends liked to call themselves, could always be found by their children by just listening for the raucous laughter from whichever screened porch they were perched. The 90's until present were spent traveling the country in her and Roy's motorhome with many friends and family members. Lynda loved motorhome "camping" and seeing the sights all over the United States. Lynda fiercely loved her grandchildren and enjoyed any and all time she spent with them; playing cards, bible studies, and cooking her family-famous pizza.
She was preceded in death by her father Lester E. and mother K. Elizabeth Brigance, her sister and brother-in-law Betty and Max Martin, and three nephews-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Roy, her daughters Angela Rochelle Cunningham (James), Cynthia Tolbert Lipscomb (Justin), grandchildren James Roy Cunningham, Carile Anne Elizabeth Cunningham, and Kathryn Elizabeth Lipscomb, her sister Peggy Bales (Clyde), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Jacob's Ladder, 2343 N. Delaware Avenue, Springfield, MO 65803.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Following a private family graveside service there will be a memorial service held on November 5th, 6:30pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 702 S. Belview in Springfield, MO 65802.
