Dr. Lyle Dodge Litton, age 87, of Springfield, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, in the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek. He was born August 17, 1921, in Atwood, Kansas, the son of Gay Cager and Flossie Marguerite Milleson Litton. Lyle was a graduate of Stockton, Kansas High School, Kansas University at Lawrence, and University of Kansas Medical School. He was united in marriage to Mary Patricia "Pat" McCann on November 1, 1947. After completing medical training, Lyle and Pat moved to Springfield, Missouri, in 1954, where he started his medical practice and later co-founded Litton-Giddings Radiological Group. Lyle was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hickory Hills Country Club, SpringGreene Investment Club and the Greene County, Missouri and American Medical Associations. In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Pat on August 31, 2006; infant brother Willard; twin brother Lynn Litton and wife, Mary Katherine; and by a nephew, Steve Litton. Lyle is survived by his daughter, Susan Von Willer and her husband, Ted of Springfield; sister Meda Gae Breckenridge and husband, Richard of Dallas Texas; two grandchildren, Brett and wife, Holly Von Willer, and Trish and husband, Shawn Whitney; great-grandchildren, Emma Whitney, Rhian Von Willer, Dylan Wright, Isabel Whitney and Millie Von Willer, all of Springfield, who lovingly called Lyle "Gauffader." Memorial funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Holy Trinity Church, with Father Fergus Managhan, Celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. tonight, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, 3801 S National, Springfield, MO 65807, The American Heart Association, 2446 E. Madrid, Springfield, MO 65804, or a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt appreciation to "his girls" at Quail Creek for their thoughtful and attentive care. Lyle will be remembered by those who knew him best as a true gentleman with a very kind and sweet nature.
