Obituary

Henry Anton, 67, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away at his home September 4, 2022 after a long courageous battle with his lungs.

He was preceded in death by his dad, George, and his sister, Rose Sheldon.  He is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn of over 45 years, his mother Inge, brothers Pat and George, many nephews, a niece and great nieces and a great nephew.

He grew up in El Paso, Texas and attended UTEP with a full military scholarship.  Later he graduated from Boston University with a Master's Degree in International Relations.

Following the completion of his master's degree, he later continued his education at the Monterey Language Institute for German fluency. This gave him the opportunity to work with the elite of the German Army for 12 years and he enjoyed many travel opportunities, throughout Germany and Holland.

After achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel he retired with more than 20 years of active service and courgeously embarked on his next great adventure.  It was here that he found great friends in Springfield and Nixa.  He had the privilege to start and teach the JROTC program at Nixa High School, SCORE, and Jr. High for more than 20 years.  As proud as he was to be a 20-year veteran of the Army, it was in this endeaver he found his true calling to share his great gift of teaching and mentoring. He LOVED every minute of it!

The simplist pleasures in life brought Henry great joy, whether a Saturday competition or paintball excursion with his students, or an evening with his devoted friends.

He used his ability to "access a file" to tell the corniest of jokes.  His laughter was indeed contageous.

A short memorial service to honor Henry's life will be held Wednesday, September 14th at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, MO, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

After the conclusion of the service, family and friends are invited to gather at Georgia Macs, 1440 E Republic Rd, to celebrate Henry's amazing life.

In lieu of flowers, please just thank a veteran or a teacher.
