Obituary

Louise Blair Wammack, 84, passed away in The Manor at Elfindale on Sunday, September 28, 2014, surrounded by her family. Louise was born on January 24, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Elizabeth and Howard ("Red") Blair. In 1938 her family moved to Springfield for her father to coach the Southwest Missouri State College football team. She attended Greenwood Laboratory School where she met Joseph Wammack. After graduating from SMS, Louise and Joe were married on June 7, 1952. She taught school a few years, but she spent the greater part of her life raising a family in the Rountree neighborhood and serving many roles in the congregation of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Her life was marked by a robust sense of humor, a fondness for wordplay, a love of music, and a relentless optimism. She loved her family deeply, and she was a constant reminder to those who knew her that it is more important to be kind than to be right. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons, John and Dan, and her brother John. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joni Wammack, of Ozark, and grandsons, Dylan and Evan; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Brett Miller, of Springfield, and granddaughters, Cassidy and Carsen; son, Ed Wammack, of Monett, and grandchildren, Chandler and Allison; sisters Harriet Neely of Springfield, Suzie Blair of Michigan, and Nancy Blair Moon, of New Mexico. The family thanks the staff of The Manor for their years of attentive care. Services will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 1, with a private burial service at Eastlawn Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 30, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First and Calvary, or charity of donor's choice.
