Obituary

Louise Sloan, age 93, died peacefully at home on May 28, 2026.

Louise was born in Seymour Missouri on July 27, 1932, to Hulda and Ira Farr. She was one of two daughters, second behind an older sister, Juanita Lane.

Louise grew up on a farm in Seymour, Missouri and eventually met Robert “Bob” Dean Sloan at the local skating rink. They married in 1951 and were married for 69 years.

Louise attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield, Missouri before working with Bob in their businesses, Sloan Distributing Company and Sloan Motor Company in Springfield.

Louise was an immense lover of animals, especially cats. She spent her years caring for many cats whom she loved and adored. She rescued any that showed up at her door, and she befriended any of nature’s creatures with kindness, garden goodies, and loving care.

She was an avid gardener and spent many hours toiling in her vegetable and flower gardens, well into her later years. She loved to share her produce with her local family and neighbors and they in turn enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She was an expert berry and fruit picker. During berry and peach season, she would pick large quantities of strawberries and peaches and share with family, friends and even her family physicians. Her sharing spirit with others was a huge part of her personality.

She enjoyed many a lunch and outings with her lady friends. She enjoyed people and people enjoyed her.

She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her wonderful niece, Janice Shumate and loving nephew, Jerry Lane of Springfield, Missouri.

There will be no formal visitation service, however friends of Louise are invited to come and pay respects and sign the guestbook at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 1:00 – 7:00 pm.
