Loren H. Lierz, 83, Springfield, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023 at his home.
Born Loren Henry, in rural Kansas, he was affectionately known as Larry throughout his life.
At age 17, Larry convinced his parents to sign for his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force. He served his country proudly as a Russian linguist. His service took him to locations around the world, including Scotland and Turkey. After 4 years of service, he received an honorable discharge in 1963.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Chester, in 1960. To this union, 4 children were born: sons Jeff, Joe, and Jesse, and daughter Laura.
Larry had a career with AT&T/Southwestern Bell, working in Public Relations in the K.C., St. Louis and Springfield regions and retired as a District Manager. During his 27 years with the phone company, he authored a column in the local newspaper, "Let's Talk".
Following his retirement, he and Ruth Ann traveled extensively and pursued their love of horse racing; they visited every active racetrack in the U.S.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence P. and Rose Ann (Knipper) Lierz, and a brother, Donald A. Lierz.
Those who survive to mourn his passing including his wife of 63 years, Ruth Ann; his children Jeff (Kim), Jesse (Tracy), Joe (Diane), and Laura; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; Brother Clarence C. Lierz (Mary Ann) and Sister Rose Ann Brashears (Steve), many nieces, nephews, friends, former neighbors and colleagues.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Springfield, MO, at 10am on April 24, 2023. Burial will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army; Holy Trinity Catholic Church; or Compassus Hospice.
