Edna Lois Smith of Springfield, Missouri left this world peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born in Dallas, Texas on November 15, 1931, and was married to Samuel D Smith, III. Sam and Lois were married in July 1951 and were blessed with long lives and a loving family.
Lois completed her Master's Degree in Education from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. She was an elementary teacher in the Springfield Public School system until retirement.
Lois enjoyed tennis, snow skiing, travel, theater and the arts in general as well as biking and other outdoor activities. She was private, kind, and forever lending an ear and support.
She will be missed by daughter Angela Smith of Madison, Wisconsin, son David Smith of Carrollton, Texas, son Benny Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and brother Ron Covington of Aledo, Texas. She leaves behind many lifelong friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, her five grandchildren David, Sean, Kristie, Gabe, and Indie, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Samuel D Smith, III, who passed away in 2010, her parents George and Pauline Covington, and her brother Bill Covington.
There will be no viewing or funeral service as she wished that. There will be a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.
Cremation is under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.gormanscharpf.com .
The family prefers that those who wish to make donations in her honor make them to charitable institutions of their choice rather than provide flowers.
