Obituary

Lois Jean (Robinson) Balisle passed away on January 19th, 2024, at Strafford Care Center in Strafford, Missouri. Lois, affectionately known as Grandma B. to her grandchildren, was born on May 20th, 1937, in Pontiac, Illinois to Ruth (Stanton) Robinson, who passed away in 1942, and Julius Robinson.

Lois grew up in Michigan and attended Roosevelt High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After high school, she attended Michigan State University and earned a degree in elementary education. She briefly taught school before moving to Hawaii, where she met her husband of 54 years, Tony Balisle, who served in the United States Marines. Lois and Tony were married on October 21st, 1961 at Saint Andrew's Cathedral in downtown Honolulu.

After the completion of Tony's service, they returned to the Midwest and eventually settled in Springfield, Missouri in 1976. Lois raised three boys and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Lois and Tony were longtime members of Central Christian Church.  She served as the past President of a PEO chapter.  Lois enjoyed attending craft shows and spent numerous hours knitting afghans, sweaters, and various other items for her family. She could often be found in the early morning hours awaiting the opening of the Pat Jones YMCA for her daily workout. Lois also loved to dance, especially to the tunes of Elvis Presley.  As Grandma B., she was a committed garage sale shopper, stocking her basement with Barbie Dreamhouses and G.I. Joe Command Centers for her grandchildren, who fondly remember spending many hours playing at her house with an endless supply of canned apple juice, ice cream sandwiches, and oatmeal raisin cookies on hand.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Tony; parents, Ruth and Julius; stepmother, Elma (Cordell) Robinson; brother, Jack Robinson; and a special aunt and uncle, Bill and Gladys Amos, with whom she lived for a few years after the death of her mother. She is survived by her sons Jeff (Tonya), Pat (Donna), and Sean (Cindy). She is also survived by her grandchildren Todd (Jessica), Cody (Sunday), Kate Alexander (Jared), Ellyn Bean (Dale), Scott (Baylee), Hope Hale (Trevor), and Chris Raines. She leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren and a 10th great-grandchild expected this summer.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25th from 6-8 P.M. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 26th, at 1 P.M. at Lebanon City Cemetery, in Lebanon, MO.
