Lloyd H. Stearns, 92 of Springfield passed away at 7 am Saturday, March 23, 2019 in his home.  He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Lloyd was a charter member of Cherry Street Baptist Church, starting in their garage. He loved to hand candy out to the kids at church, he worked on the church buses, mowed the church lawn and worked in the Sunday school office for 50 years.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

His hobby was woodworking where he would cut out the projects and Velma would decorate it and they signed everything "LOVES" (LO for Lloyd and VE for Velma and S for Stearns).  He also had an on-going project with his '63 Studebaker and loved working on cars in general.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Clarence and Mabel C. Bedunah Stearns; his daughter, Beverly Cox; sisters, Irma Wright, Vera Caufield, Iva Campbell, and Elsie Wilson; brothers, Roy, Merle, Lee, and Donald Stearns.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Alice Hill Stearns of the home; son, Vern Stearns and wife, Nancy of Helen, GA; son, Carl Stearns and wife, Gloria of Willoughby, OH; daughter, Carol Levergood and husband, Bill of Springfield, MO; daughter, Patty Bosler and husband, James of Decatur, IL; daughter, Cheri Metzger and husband, Bruce of Ozark, MO; son-in-law, John R. Cox, Jr. of Republic, MO; sister, Clarissa Davis; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at Cherry Street Baptist Church with Reverends Bill Levergood and James Bosler officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at 1:00 pm in Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.  Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 6-8 pm in the funeral home.
