IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillis Ethel
Hulme
April 12, 1922 – May 30, 2019
Lillis Ethel Hulme, 97, of Springfield, Mo, went home to be with Lord on Thursday May 30, 2019.
Lillis was born April 12, 1922 to Earl and Lila Wooden in Fort Madison, IA. She met her husband, Gilbert Hulme, at church in Indianapolis, IN during the war. Her parents invited him for Sunday lunch, which was the custom, and the rest was history. The love that they shared was undeniable. Their lives were truly intertwined as one. They were blissfully married for 49 years and had five children.
Lillis dedicated her life to working with children. She began working with the Head Start program as an assistant teacher in 1970 and continued even after retirement as a volunteer foster grandparent until 2008. When she wasn't working, she loved to sew. She would spend her time making quilts for homeless veterans and teddy bears for at risk children. Lillis loved the Lord and had a servant's heart. She was the epitome of a truly noble woman.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rev. Robert (Bob) Hulme in 1989, and her husband Rev. Gilbert Hulme in 1992.
She is survived by her children MaryAnn Bruening (husband Harold), Gregory Hulme (wife Gaebelle), Bob's wife Carolyn Hulme Humphery, Patti Young (husband Randy), and Jim Hulme (wife Jane,) thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
