Obituary

Letha Fern Gingery Watmore was born September 2, 1917 in Rushville, Missouri to Lewis and Grace Gingery. She passed away on November 17, 2013 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Loudon Fory Gingery and her husband Donald John Watmore Sr. She is survived by her three children Donald John Watmore Jr. and wife Loan, Lewis Gingery Watmore and Barbara Gay Watmore; Grandchildren Lisa Lewis and Christopher Watmore, great grandson Jordan Lewis, younger brother Lee Gingery and wife Virginia and nephew David Gingery and wife Linda as well as many other nieces and nephews. She filled her life with the love for her family and good friends. She was a writer in her twenties, writing for the Atchison Daily Globe newspaper, Atchison, Kansas and had her own column in the Red Ranger, a Fox and Fox Hunting Journal. Letha loved to travel and the excitement of seeing new places. Most of her travels were prompted by her husband Donald's army career. They married February 2, 1944 in Petaluma, CA. Donald was stationed at a nearby army post and their first son, Donald Jr. was born there. She next traveled to Hawaii in 1947 when Donald Sr. was stationed on the island of Oahu. Second son, Lewis was born there in 1948. When Donald Sr., a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army at the time, was stationed in Germany in the early 1950's she got her chance for some more of that excitement. In 1953 she took her two young sons, as well as her nephew David by ship to join her husband in Bad Aibling, Germany. They arrived back in the states in 1955 and took up residence at Arlington, VA. Their daughter Barbara Gay was born there in 1956. The next adventure came six months later when the army sent them to Kenai, Alaska. About three years later they were in Littleton, MA. Donald retired from the army in 1961. The family made its way back to California. They lived first in Monrovia, CA then ended up in San Jose, CA for around 14 years. In 1976 Letha led the family back to Rushville, MO. They stayed there for nine years while renovating the old family home. Letha loved fixing up the old house. Wallpapering was an art when she did it. After the house was sold, Letha moved to Oceanside, CA. In 1998 she moved back to Missouri, but this time it was to Springfield, MO to be near her daughter. In her early sixties while still in Rushville, she decided to take some painting lessons from a local artist. She excelled at it as she did with most things. Several of her paintings still hang in her children's and brother's homes. Never wanting to miss out on anything, she couldn't help but stay up most nights. She enjoyed reading books, especially Nero Wolf mysteries and watching her favorite sports, golf and tennis. She is greatly missed.
