Lessie Mae (Johnson) Jones age 80, of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Lessie was born in Bolton, MS to Marian and Genell Johnson on December 19, 1934. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. She graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson, MS in 1954. She then pursued a cosmetology license, but became bored with it. In January of 1956 she joined the Air Force, during this time she started to pursue her college education. She was honorably discharged in December of 1958. Herbert and Lessie Jones were married August 7th of 1967. During the next several years they lived in Sedalia, Kansas City and settled in Springfield, MO. Shortly after they adopted their daughter in November of 1973. Lessie was a faithful member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for the past 35 years. She was a lecturer with Weight Watchers for 35 years. She volunteered much of her time serving others. A few of the places she volunteered over her lifetime were Southside Senior Center and Crosslines. She visited the sick and shut-in and gave numerous rides to church. She was always on the go and met no stranger. Her adventures included, but definitely were not limited to, photography, travelling with family, Weight Watchers, exercising and bargain hunting. Lessie, also, spent her later years in life adoring her grandsons who she spent time with endlessly. She is preceded in death by her son, husband, parents and two brothers. Siblings from her fathers 2nd marriage...4 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Sonya L. Burnett of St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to Joyce and Mike Barnhart for their consistent loving support through Lessie's time of need. A memorial service will be held at Turning Point Church (formerly Washington Avenue Baptist Church) 1722 N. National Ave. Springfield, MO 65803 on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM with Dr. E.L.
