Obituary

Leslie Warren Kinser, 92, Rogersville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, June 23, 2014. He was born September 26, 1921 in Buckruff, Missouri, the son of William and Letha Daugherty Kinser. As a boy, Leslie attended Kinser School and was a 1941 graduate of Rogersville High School. He served his country during World War II as a Master Sergeant in England and France. Leslie was united in marriage to Betty Tillman in 1948. They located to Tulsa shortly thereafter. Leslie's accomplishments include working at Sun Oil Company as an Assistant Controller. He was one of the original Founders of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Club at the University of Tulsa. Leslie also worked as an Associate Professor at the University of Tulsa until he and Betty moved to Springfield in 1975. The couple purchased the Tillman Century Farm in Mentor, Missouri. The home was built by Betty's grandfather, John Tillman. After the move to Springfield, Leslie worked as a Professor at Missouri State University. He and Betty were avid supporters of both men's and women's Bears basketball. His educational accomplishments include receiving a BSBA in Accounting from Missouri State University, where he was President of Tri-C Fraternity, and lettered in track. He received a Master's degree in Business from the University of Tulsa. During his lifetime, Leslie obtained his CPA, and lectured extensively. Mr. Kinser was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, and Twin Oaks Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. Leslie was active with Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Susan Kinser, two brothers, Leland and Eugene Kinser and a sister, Junetta Kinser Bonner. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Betty Tillman Kinser; two daughters, Leslie Ann Kinser, and Christine Love and her husband, Tom Love; two grandchildren, Diane Elizabeth Haney and Zachary Philip Haney. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf in the Brentwood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at Gorman-Scharpf in the Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
