Leroy Ray, 87, Springfield, passed away at 8:40 PM, Monday, March 16, 2009 in St. John's Hospital. He was born October 31, 1921 in Bolivar, MO, the son of William and Angie Settle Ray. Following high school he joined the Army, serving in WWII in Alaska, California and Europe with the 203rd Coastal Artillery and the Fifth Army. In 1946 he married Cecelia Smith in Springfield. He spent his career with Paul Mueller Co. before starting his own business, Storage Unlimited. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and eight sisters. Leroy is survived by his wife Cecelia, Springfield; two sons, Steven and wife Katheryn Ray, Rockford, MI and David and wife Karen Ray, Springfield and by one daughter, Cynthia and husband David Smith, Ozark. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 20, 2009 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Reverend Lewis Hejna celebrant under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM, Thursday followed by a prayer service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Immaculate Conception Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
