Obituary

Leon Tyler, 62 of Springfield passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Cox South Hospital.

Leon Tyler was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 11 th , 1956.  Most of his childhood was spent growing up in Germany and traveling.  After Germany, his family returned to live in San Antonio, Texas.  There he graduated from John Jay High School and, afterwards, attended Eastern University New Mexico on a football scholarship.  For most of his adult years, Leon worked in the trucking industry before becoming unable to work due to illness.

Leon, fittingly known as T Gypsy, lived a colorful and adventurous life and loved to capture memories and share them through photographs and his vivid storytelling.

Leon Tyler is survived by his mother, Dorothy Wood; his children, Dalila Perry, Shawn Tyler, Alyssa Tyler, Maraya Tyler, Mariah Brooks; his four sisters, Joyce Horton, Verdell Myers, Beverly Tyler and Rita Raynor; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 27, 2018 with a service at 11:00 am in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
