Taplin
August 30, 1927 – December 30, 2016
Leola Taplin, age 89, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016.
Leola was preceded in death by Charles, her husband of 60 years.
After graduating from Bolivar High School in 1945 Leola moved to Springfield to attend Draughon Business College and then worked at Citizens' Bank.
Leola and Charles were married in 1948 in Peoria, Illinois and moved to Springfield the following year. Leola was a stay-at-home Mom and a wonderful cook. Family and friends enjoyed many wonderful meals which Leola lovingly prepared through the years.
They owned Taplin's Drive-in for nearly 20 years.
Charles and Leola were faithful members of the Chapel Class at First Baptist Church. Leola was very blessed by the caring support of her class friends.
Leola is survived by three children: Brenda Taplin, Springfield; Bradley Taplin and wife Teresa, Bryan, Texas; and Jeffrey Taplin, Springfield. Grandchildren: Carrie and husband Rick; Bradley and wife Misty; and Elizabeth, great-grandchildren: Chloe, Braxton, Ethan, and Abigail.
The family wishes to thank Integrity Hospice for their support. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church, 525 South Avenue, with the memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Overton officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International.
