Lenord McGownd, 63, passed away on July 11, 2026 at his home in Nixa, Missouri. He was born September 8th 1962 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Shirley and Lenord McGownd Sr.

Lenord graduated from Missouri State University with both a Bachelors and a Masters in Communication. He went on to work in the university’s administration for the next 35 years, dedicating himself to helping students navigate the world of higher education. He played several roles at the university. Student housing, admissions, and even managing student orientation among many others, Lenord did it all. Retiring from MSU, he went on to work at other institutions of higher education, Vatterott College and Ozark’s Technical Community College.

A life long chef and grill master, Lenord’s second home was in the kitchen, be it for family gatherings or simply Sunday dinner. Lenord particularly loved making Bar-B-Que and dedicated himself to its mastery, with delicious results. Lenord touched many lives through his wisdom, humor, and dedication.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his first wife Suzanne, his current wife Jennifer, and his children; Connor McGownd, Cordelia Semmelbeck, and Cassandra Tobin.
