Lela Sylvia "Weedie" Peters Deckard Lela Sylvia "Weedie" Peters Deckard was born October 5, 1912, in Noble, Missouri, to T.W. and Columbia Peters. She passed away May 16, 2010, at the age of 97, in Magnolia Square in Springfield, where she had resided since January 2006. Lela was the youngest of nine siblings, all of whom preceded her in death, along with her parents. She was united in marriage to Fred Deckard on February 15, 1943, in Kearney, Nebraska. Lela was a homemaker who lived with Fred on their farm in Douglas County until they sold it and began traveling. For many years they traveled to the state of Washington where they lived and worked seasonally, always returning to Missouri part of the year. Fred, who passed away March 25, 2006, cared for Lela in their home until poor health necessitated moving to Magnolia Square in January 2006. Lela was a lively spirit who maintained an upbeat attitude and lived life to the fullest, on her own terms. She loved to laugh, sing her songs, and joke around. She was a joy to know and love, a gift to those around her. She is survived by close family friends, Marshelene, Mindy, and Gary Francka; her angel at Magnolia Square, Katie Maggard; and all of the wonderful caregivers in Magnolia Square who became family to Lela. Sincere thanks to Lela's Magolia Square family for your love and devotion to Lela, especially Katie, whom she loved so much. Also special thanks to Dr. Dahlberg and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care of Lela. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2 010, in Hazelwood Cemetery under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. No visitation is scheduled, however friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
