Obituary

Lee Charles Deskin, 82, of Springfield, passed away quietly, Monday, September 5, 2011 at home with his beloved family by his side. He was born January 31, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to William A. and Hattie L. Deskin. He graduated in 1948 from Joplin High School. After serving his country in the US Armed Forces he joined his father in the family business. He later became owner, operator and CEO of Deskin Scale Company until he retired in 1996. Lee was united in marriage to Betty L. Campbell on August 19, 1951. Lee was a member of Shriner's International, Breakfast Optimist Club and Springfield Vintage Motor Club. After retirement he enjoyed working on his antique cars and spending time with his family and friends. He was loved by numerous people throughout his life and was always on the giving end of helping others, never seeking recognition. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy Deskin and Howard Deskin; a sister, Dolores Bylsma and a son-in-law Chuck Harrison. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; four daughters, Pam Wyant, Cindy Deskin and friend Cass Williams, Sherri Crawford and husband Mike, and Debbie Gregory and fiance Raymond Phillips all of Springfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bump and husband Josh, Kristen McCabe and husband Adam, Kayla Hunter and husband Travis, Jacob Harrison and Joshua Harrison and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Thurman and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and many friends and associates. A special thank you to Kim and Connie with Hospice Compassus for the love and care they showed. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 8, with Pastor Craig Fields officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springfield Breakfast Optimist Club or Hospice Compassus.
