Obituary

Lawrence Eugene "Gene" Myers, age 90, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022. He was born January 12, 1932 in Smackout, Missouri, the son of Vester B. Myers and Pansy (Wood) Myers. On August 4, 1949 Gene married the love of his life Dorothy Lee Hamby. Gene had an ingenuitive mind, a work ethic that was second to none, and was known for solving problems others could not. His work career began as a farmer in Smallett, Missouri. Later he moved his family to Ava, Missouri while working at the 20th Century Milk Plant. He had the opportunity to begin employment with the Springday Dayco Plant in Springfield, Missouri. He worked tirelessly in production as a blackrock cutter where he set a standard that could be achieved by no other employee. After 27 years with Dayco, he began a new career as a heavy equipment operator for Pittman Construction Company until retirement. Then, he returned to hobby farming, raising beef cattle. Throughout his adult life, he faithfully served His Lord and Savior as a charter member of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Springfield, Missouri. Each and every day he strived to live his life by his favorite scripture found in Luke 6:31, "Do to others as you would have them do to you." Gene was devoted to his family and left a legacy of faith, strength, and love.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Judy Carole Myers; three brothers Billy Myers, Wayne Myers, and Vasel Myers; and daughter-in-law Kay Myers.

Survivors include: His wife, Dorothy, of 73 happily married years; one son Steve Myers and wife Bethany of Ozark; one daughter Gaye Ann Shuler and husband Paul of Springfield; grandchildren, Tina Sutherland, Tammy Myers, Tonya Wofford, Hannah Shuler, and Blake Shuler; great-grandchildren, Chase, Garrett, and Ethan Sutherland, Jacob and Abby Wofford, and Kenley Eskina.
